The OAL project: balancing energy security with the energy transition
Russia’ s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the subsequent disruption of energy supply routes presented Europe with significant challenges to its energy transition efforts. This geopolitical uncertainty forced Germany to rethink its energy policy, and in a record-breaking 10 days, the LNG Acceleration Act( LNGG) was passed by parliament and came into force on 1 June 2022, with the plan to construct multiple LNG terminals on Germany’ s shores.
Shortly afterwards, in August of the same year, the conceptual design of an LNG terminal that would connect with the German gas grid in Lubmin – and could later transport hydrogen – was first developed by StreamTec Solutions( STS).
