Fortescue officially opens Gladstone electrolyser manufacturing facility On 8 April , Fortescue officially opened its electrolyser manufacturing facility in Gladstone , Queensland , Australia – one of the first globally to feature an automated assembly line . Spanning 15,000 m ², the facility was constructed and fully commissioned in just over two years and has the capacity to produce more than 2 GW of PEM electrolyser stacks annually .
Fortescue Energy CEO Mark Hutchinson said the Gladstone facility , which produces electrolysers designed inhouse by Fortescue teams in Australia and the United States , establishes the company as an Original Equipment Manufacturer ( OEM ). “ We ’ re strategically focussed on building out our Energy business ,” he said .
Industry Update
“ Not only are we developing a pipeline of green energy projects , we ’ re also now designing and manufacturing the specialised equipment and technology that will underpin our green hydrogen projects and that of others .”
“ We will continue to research , manufacture , source and invest in new electrolyser technologies across the world to give us the best possible competitive position .”
The electrolyser facility is the first stage of a wider Green Energy Manufacturing Centre being developed by Fortescue on the 100-hectare Gladstone site , the next phases of which will also include a hydrogen system testing facility and Fortescue ’ s PEM50 green hydrogen project .
L & T commissions its first electrolyser made in India Larsen & Toubro ( L & T ) has commissioned its first indigenously manufactured hydrogen electrolyser at the green hydrogen plant located within the A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira , Gujarat , India , marking the entry of L & T
Electrolysers into the domestic manufacturing of electrolysers . Featuring a rated power capacity of 1 MW ( expandable to 2 MW ), this electrolyser can produce 200 Nm ³/ Hr of hydrogen . It is equipped with two stacks and an Electrolyser Processing Unit ( EPU ) ML- 400 , which is indigenously manufactured and assembled , adhering to the latest international standards , and offers exceptional flexibility and thermal stability , according to the company . The electrolyser will now undergo rigorous testing to optimise its performance , thereby paving the way for full-fledged manufacturing of electrolysers .
L & T Electrolysers , a newly incorporated entity of L & T , is focused on manufacturing pressurised alkaline electrolysers using the technology from McPhy Energy , France . The company spearheaded the complete value chain from engineering to manufacturing , in collaboration with Indian vendors and suppliers , thus setting a benchmark for ‘ Make in India ’ initiatives . L & T Electrolysers plans to leverage its upcoming giga-scale facility in Hazira to meet the growing demand for green hydrogen , maximising product localisation through enhanced local supply chain , and automation for costcompetitiveness .
