Dr. Misra: I was admitted in 1970 in

“Maharani Laxmi Bai (MLB) Medical
College”, Jhansi. Actually, we were
rst admitted in LLRM Medical
College, Meerut for Jhansi, and ours
was the third batch. We were shifted
to the Jhansi Campus in September
1971. e same year, rst batch of
UCMS was admitted in LLRM
Medical College, Meerut. It was a
new college with its teething
problems of hospital and faculty.
However, we had some excellent
faculty in clinical disciplines,
renowned surgeons (Prof. H. S.
Asopa) and physicians (Prof. G N
Vajpayee) as teachers. We did our
obstetric posting at GSVM Medical
College, Kanpur. By the time we
graduated, hospital started
functioning and I did my internship
from Jhansi. However, there was no
post graduation by the time we
completed Internship, House Job
and also 6 months of Resident
Surgical Officer’s job. We were then
accommodated in various Medical
Colleges of UP for postgraduation. I
went to MLN Medical College,
Allahabad and completed MS in
Surgery in 1979. For a medical

clinical work. I can vouch for myself

bad attributes like the consumption
of alcohol or smoking. We had
limited money
to sustain
hostel (Rupees
150 – 170 per
month). In
internship, we

I joined as a

Resident at
AIIMS the
salary was Rs.

Suddenly I felt rich. No wonder, the
then Dean late Prof. Prakash
Chandra asked me in Senior Resident
Interview, why do I want to come to
AIIMS?Is it more money? We studied
during MBBS from original books of

Physiology and so on. During our
MBBS student days, despite limited
resources, we never felt scarcity. We
