“Roughly half a mile”, I said,
“Oh”, he said.
“Yeah, we still have quite a while to go”. I said
“Time will fly when I am with you, Bian hung”, He said
I gave him a big smile because I didn’t know how to respond to him. It started to sprinkle in
South Vietnam and I knew that Chi and I had to get shelter before it starts to rain hard.
“We must go home fast”, I said.
“No”, Chi said,
“Chi, its June. It’s going to rain hard”, I said to him.
The rain had stopped and Chi and I hadn’t gotten wet. I was surprised. Chi and I had walked in
silence for a couple minutes until I had almost slipped.
“Bian, Be careful you could have broken something” Chi said with a worried look on his face.
“But you caught me”, I said.
“I know”, he said.
“My house is right here”, he said pointing to a white house.
“I still need to walk more to get to mine”, I said.
“I’ll walk you”, He asked.
“No thank you”, I said.
I think it was very sweet of Chi to ask that but I didn’t want him to get home late so I said no.
“Bye”, He said as he came forward to me to hug me.
“Bye”, I said as we hugged.
Chi pulled away, after a minute which was disappointing because I wish he could hold me
forever in those cozy arms.
