Black Solidarity Day was created in 1969 as a Nationally Observed Day by African-American men, women, and students. This days always takes place the day before Election Day. This year it fell on November 7, 2016. Originally it was to bring the Black Community together to discuss their political goals, education and status and how it will effect each others lives. This is suppose to be a day of absence where The Black Community would skip work or school and try to avoid spending any money on this day. These actions were to show the impact of the Black Community and the impact it has on the Nation's economy.
So, why is this day rarely recognized? This day which was founded by Dr. Carlos E. Russell in Brooklyn, NY. This day derives from the play. "Day of Absence" by Douglas Turner Ward. It's time to share knowledge amongst each other and research things such as Black Solidarity Day.
