International Wine Competition including
their best of show Texas white sweet Blanc
du Bois and their gold winning dry red.
“There’s all kinds of anecdotal evidence
about the Texas palette being favorable to
sweet white based on the spiciness of our
food selections,” McGinley said.
The winery primarily works with
Salvadoran restaurant Carbonero for
monthly wine dinners, “A Taste of WSCW”,
held the first Friday of every month in ad-
dition to the occasional murder mystery
dinner. The wine pairing dinner pairs four
wines with each course, typically beginning
with an appetizer on the porch to compli-
ment the first pour.
“If you’re not a connoisseur, it’s a way
to experience what wine can be like,”
McCready said, noting that live music has
recently been added to the evening, and
discounts are offered towards the wine
served.
A Taste of WSCW is a great way to expe-
rience the facilities when considering the
winery as an event venue, many guests of-
ten rent one of the four log cabins on site for
a safe evening in the country.
Though WSCW lies only 20 minutes out-
side of the city, the property feels like a
hidden gem nestled in the Piney Woods.
The cabins and venue are often rented out
for alumni events, rehearsal dinners, bridal
showers, bachelorette and graduation par-
ties.
With picnic benches overlooking the
sprawling property home to ponies, zebras
and cows, the McGinley family winery wel-
comes family members of all ages to bring
picnics for an afternoon retreat.
WSCW recently joined the Texas
Bluebonnet Wine Trail covering southeast
Texas and is currently partnering with fellow
Huntsville winemakers Teysha Vineyards to
create a new wine trail for the area with six
to seven local wineries already joined.
“I think the Huntsville community has
been pleasantly surprised by our local
fare – grapes grown here right in Walker
County, processed and made right here in
Walker County,” McGinley said. “Shifting to
our other target market, The Woodlands in
North Houston, I think have viewed our en-
trance to the market as an alternative to Hill
Country that’s a lot closer and just as nice.”
