For years , a paid-off mortgage has been seen as the key to a stable retirement . But today , increased costs of homeownership and changing lifestyles make renting a more appealing option than ever for many retirees . That ’ s where West Hill Apartments comes in .

With many of Huntsville ’ s apartment complexes geared towards accommodating students attending Sam Houston State University , the conventional West Hill property aims to create an environment like that of a suburban neighborhood without the hassle of maintaining property .
Property Manager of West Hill Jerry Martinez described how their conventional complex and distance from the university helps to draw in those seeking a more upscale apartment . With the combination of freedom from the responsibilities of residential life and amenities to keep them happy and healthy , residents are finding that places such as West Hill are much more preferable to a residence .
“ I think at the same time , with tying yourself down to a house , you ’ re setting yourself in a place that you ’ re already more settled in and that you ’ re thinking of living there for long-term ,” Martinez said . “ That ’ s one thing I ’ ve learned about being out here in this market , with the university here , it caters to a lot of students and the movement is constantly happening .”
While many people may see apartments as only a temporary residence and not a home , West Hill is designed to make residents feel comfortable and immersed in the community . They do this by hosting events such as crawfish boils and patio contests to get residents to get out and interact with their neighbors . After a lull due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the complex has seen immense growth
