had some positivity in some key games . Against Newton , the Bulldogs were able to come out and punch them in the throat as they took an early lead , but the Eagles quickly bounced back in a big way .
However , it showed something for the Dogs they haven ’ t seen in a while .
The standard was also increased for the Dogs as their core returners . New Waverly returned eight offensive and defensive starters that had already won a playoff game in their junior year and were hungry for more .
Two of those key players were seniors , Joe Bryant and Jeremy Miles . Both players would hit the field as wide receivers and cornerbacks .
As the wideouts for the squad , Miles brought in 37 balls for 882 yards and 12 touchdowns and Bryant added 542 yards and seven scores . Those two were staples for this team on both sides of the ball but offensively they needed a quarterback to get it to them .
Senior Evan Erwin filled that role as he started all 11 games for New Waverly . In his outing , he would finish the year completing 126 passes for 2,393 yards and 27 touchdowns . In turn , mistakes are what hurt the
