Bulldogs fall short

Football season ended earlier than New Waverly hoped for the 2022 season . The Dogs had aspirations of making a deep run in the playoffs with a returning core of several seniors .
New Waverly would get out to a fast start as they opened the season with back-to-back wins with a high-powered offense . The Dogs scored 44 points in their opening win against Shepherd , and their offense was off to a quick start .
Senior running back Will Larrison showed in game one why he was the Dave Campbell ’ s Texas High School Footballs offensive player of the week for District 12-3A , DII . He rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns in the opening game .

New Waverly ’ s non-district schedule was set to help test them as they played all four games up a level against 3A , D1 opponents . After the non-conference slate , the Dogs saw themselves at 3-1 with a bye-week before the important part of the season got underway .
The Bulldogs ’ offense was set to be high-powered and outside of their one loss to Anahuac , they were . In all but two of their games this season they scored over 30 points .
New Waverly ’ s two-game games where they didn ’ t score over 30 points was their loss to Anahauc and their bi-district round game against Harmony .
“ It definitely gave us some fuel ,” New Waverly head coach Dean Schaub said . “ Losing to Anahuac , that was a good football team , but it was nice going into district with those three wins .”
