Gwen Lucas
Gwen Lucas is the Director of First Impressions at the Walker County Chamber of Commerce . And the title suits her well .
For those of you who do not recognize this title it means she greets members and other visitors , answers phone , assist with office calendaring , helps with incoming and outgoing mail , maintains the reception area , and performs other administrative tasks as needed . She is the first person you will see as you enter the Huntsville / Walker County Chamber of Commerce . Having grown up in Odessa , Texas , family life was simple .
“ You worked , went to school , and came home and started all over the next day ,” said Lucas when asked how she grew up .
“ Having been influenced at a young age by my parents , I learned that you knew right from wrong and instilled in me to be the type of person that people admired .”
Lucas attended school at Permian High School , where she became a part of the Vocational Office Education classes . “ That is where the love for secretarial work was born ,” Lucas said . In taking those classes , she was fortunate enough to be able to work while attending school and thus began the journey of working for the public . When asked what her philosophy on life was , Gwen shined her bright smile widely .
“ Count your Blessings not your problems has always been my philosophy ,” Lucas said .
When Lucas isn ’ t managing the front operations of the Chamber entrance , she takes time for relaxation with a good book or a movie - “ you can always depend on that being a good choice .”
