How the Buckners withstood ( and repaired ) the hands of time
Buckner ’ s Watch and Jewelry Repair opened its doors on June 28 , 1971 . Celebrating 51 years , the Buckner family has devoted years of their life to servicing the people of Huntsville and surrounding areas .
Stacy Buckner recounted summer days when her parents had just opened the shop . She was four years old at the time and only remembers watching her parents master their craft from the perspective of the back room .
Her father , Thomas Buckner , served as a watch repairman at a jewelry store in Houston . He had studied horology , the art of making clocks and watches , at Houston Technical College and received his degree in 1963 . He grew increasingly tired of the commute from New Waverly to Houston and felt confident in his own ability to run a business . He and his wife decided to bet on their skills and open Buckner ’ s Watch and Jewelry Repair , Inc . They were still young adults with three adolescent children at home , but their ambition and drive would prove to be beneficial .
The family business began with Thomas Buckner and his wife Ann . He specialized in watch repair while she fixed clocks . Ann ’ s brother possessed the same drive and skill in jewelry repair , so Darrel Herzog joined the firm in 1976 . He has been part of the team for 45 continuous years . Thomas and
