Squirrel!
Before the temperature started getting cold and the leaves started falling, John took his dad and younger brother Matthew to find some squirrels for that nights dinner.
HWJESV: How many squirrels did you end up going home with?
JOHN: Dad shot one squirrel. Matthew and I were so excited we wanted to go right home after it was shot so we could cook it up.
HWJESV: How long did you actually hunt for?
JOHN: It was probably just a couple hours. We went to a conservation area and dad picked a nice spot and we found a squirrel almost right away. He used a whistle!
HWJESV: A whiste?
JOHN: He said that squirrels would come out barking at us if we whistled like a hurt baby squirrel. And it worked. One came barking out at us across a small stream and up the side of a hill.
HWJESV: Did you and Matthew cover your ears when Dad shot?
JOHN: Kind of. I watched as he lifted up the gun and told us to cover our ears. I Don't think Matthew saw the shot, but I kept very close watch.
HWJESV: Is that you carrying the squirrel below?
JOHN: It sure is! I wanted to carry it the whole time, but I let Matthew have a couple of turns. It was heavier than I thought it would be.
HWJESV: Sounds like you have a good time. Would you recommend other kids your age hunt squirrels with their parents?
JOHN: Yes!
HWJESV: Last question. Did you eat the
squirrel???
JOHN: We all tried it. Mom had the least,
Dad had some and Matthew, Adam and
I ate the rest. It was delicious if you ask
us boys! I think Mom will stick to
chicken for now :).
