for fear of possibly infringing on the people’s second amendment
rights. It was important however, to be able to monitor the overall
things that people were saying for the safety of the nation and it’s
secrets, leading to the creation of the Federal Communications
Commision, the Media Bureau, the Wireless Telecommunication
Bureau, the Wireless Competition Bureau, and the International
Bureau. The purpose of all of these committees and bureaus was for
the safe regulation of the various forms of communication in the US.
While all of this was happening though, steps were also taken to
make sure that, as expressed earlier, no second amendment rights
were infringed upon. Thus the Freedom of Information Act and the
Privacy Act were created.
America’s regulations and committees show that their is a way to
give people the freedom to speak out against the things they deem
unfair while still protecting the nation. China has not yet found this
balance, and as a result of it’s focus on media censorship, has
become known for controlling information released to the public. The
methods they are using now only seem to encourage the very thing
they are fighting against. “The watchdog group Reporters without
Borders ranked China 173 out of 179 countries in its 2013
worldwide index of press freedom.” While China does have the
necessary need to protect it’s state secrets, there seem to be better
ways to go about regulating the flow of media.
