THE STAGES OF CULTURAL EVOLUTION

4

Biological and cultural evolution has always simultaneously progressed, in turn causing social evolution. One of the reasons that made cultural evolution possible, is the dispersal of humans across the world, this step caused humans to adapt to new environments and create cultures based on their surroundings (Haas, 2016).

These are the Cultural Stages according to an article by P. Tiwari.

PALEOLITHIC AGE

The Paleolithic age was about 2 million years ago. It was then when the world suffered extreme climate change, which caused species that couldn’t adapt to be extinct. The Paleolithic age is also when fire was discovered and when a form of speech was developed. So along with the advancement of the use of tools, the ‘tripod of culture’ is completed. It was also in the Paleolithic age where humans evolved from an unspecified food gatherer or Homo Habilis, to specialized hunter-gatherer or advanced Homo Sapien.
