CAREER IMPACT “Working with such diverse teams and living abroad gave me a much better understanding of cultures. This global mindset still benefits me today and helped me transition into the Chinese market." What motivated you to come to business school? I have a background in mechanical engineering with a particular focus on the automotive sector. My goal for the MBA program was to develop a well-rounded understanding of business and elevate my leadership skills. I also wanted to broaden my international experience and so being able to study in London, Boston, and Shanghai all in one year was just an incredible opportunity. Michael Neidhardt German Project Manager–China Daimler AG Class of 2017 London, Boston, and Shanghai campuses How has your MBA helped your career development? I learned how to complement my specialized background in engineering with business, and this has given me a real edge in the workplace. The practical learning and challenges were extremely energizing and really made the learning stick. Additionally, working with such diverse teams and living abroad gave me a much better understanding of different cultures. This global mindset still benefits me today and helped me transition into the Chinese market. “My Career Advisor supported me to strategically reshape my profile and make sure that what I could offer to the United Nations became more apparent. This revamping is what finally attracted the U.N.’s eye to an atypical candidate like me.” Did you have a specific career goal before you came to Hult? Amadou Sy French/Senegalese Partnerships & Private Sector Development Consultant United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) Class of 2016 Boston and New York campuses Yes: I had very clear aspirations that I wanted to transition from working in the private sector with companies like EY and Danone to an international development institution, such as the United Nations, World Bank, or African Development Bank. An MBA was a good way for me to cement my experience and skillset before embracing the transition. How did you make it a reality? Hult‘s MBA program was instrumental in me landing an internship with the U.N. The program is compact yet diverse. I could broaden my social impact experience through participation in the Hult Prize and take courses with a social responsibility focus. Equally, I was also able to ensure that I understood key empirical concepts in finance and strategy, which came as part of our business core classes. It gave me more confidence and allowed me to perform better at crucial moments during my internship. That performance was pivotal in me being hired as a consultant. Did you work with the Career Development team? Yes: I worked closely with my Career Advisor, who supported me to strategically reshape my profile and make sure that what I could offer to the United Nations became more apparent. This revamping is what finally attracted the U.N.’s eye to an atypical candidate like me. HULT.EDU/APPLY 51
