MESSAGE FROM HULT
SHAREENA HATTA
DR. STEPHEN HODGES
As we start the new year, I wanted
to take a quick moment to reflect
on how the Alumni Magazine came
about and its journey so far. When
we launched the magazine this
time last year, our hope was that it
would help showcase some of our
amazing alumni and offer a platform
for them to share their stories with
fellow Hultians around the world.
We also wanted to keep alumni members updated with some
of the school’s most exciting developments–from new rotation
centers and campuses to new leadership structures. We wanted
to share some of the latest research and publications from our
star professors so that alumni who hadn’t had a chance to join
their classes during their time at Hult could also discover more
about their expertise. Finally we were looking to help make the
alumni community feel ever more connected to Hult and the Hult
community.
What we didn’t expect was the great support that alumni
would provide us with; offering their help, and using the magazine
as a platform upon which to connect with fellow alums. For that
we’re truly thankful to everyone involved in the process of creating
this magazine each quarter.
In 2014 we’ll continue to feature articles on a range of
interesting topics. In this issue, we get to talk to Wendy Tan and
Nick Caes, who offer us a peek into life in the financial sector in
New York and Singapore. If you want to find out what it takes to
make it in that field, head over to pages 12 and 13 to read their
tips. We also made the discovery that there are several ‘Hult family
legacies’; see page 18 to read about families that boast two generations of Hultians. And if you didn’t get a chance to join Professor
Roger Delves’s classes in London during your time at Hult, you can
get a taste of his classes in an excerpt from his book on page 16.
I hope you have all had a great start to 2014 and wish you all
the best for the year ahead,
As the new year unfolds I want to take
this opportunity to share some of the
developments that await us at Hult in
2014. 2014 is a very special year for the
Hult community—marking fifty years
since Arthur D. Little established the
Management Education Institute in
Boston. Fifty years of innovation in the
business education field and fifty years
equipping business leaders with the
hands-on experience and practical skills required for success on the
global stage. This year will be no different as we continue to seek
innovative ways to help prepare our students for the real world of
business.
In September 2014 we will roll out our groundbreaking new
MBA curriculum. Based on research conducted with hundreds
of CEOs and employers, the new program will equip students
with five key competencies that employers identified as lacking in
the majority of business school graduates. Through competitive
simulations, students will have the chance to train these skills in a
safe environment, preparing them for success in the real world upon
graduation.
2014 will also be an exciting year for our undergraduate students.
For the first time ever our U.S.-accredited Bachelor program
will be offered both in London and San Francisco, with students
having the option to split their studies between the two locations.
Undergraduate students in London will also enjoy new, and quite
frankly incredibly hip, surroundings, with the openin g of our new
Hult House East campus and residence located just minutes from
London’s financial heart, the City. We would be delighted to welcome
you back on campus so that you can see the new facilities for yourself. This year will also be an exciting year for our alumni community,
who for the first time will have the opportunity to take electives at our
New York rotation center. We look forward to sharing more details
with you shortly and working with the alumni network even more
closely over the coming months.
Wishing you all the best for 2014,
Shareena Hatta
