New Chapter Spotlight
Switzerland
Maurice Jan Willem Janssen Ashridge Executive MBA, 2004
After the operational merger in September 2015, Ashridge Executive Education is now a thriving part of Hult International Business School, but what does this mean for our alumni? We interviewed the Chapter leader of the newly founded alumni Chapter in Geneva, Switzerland, the first chapter within the Hult Alumni Association to be founded by alumni from both Ashridge and Hult.
What motivates you to lead your Chapter?
I’ m an Ashridge alumnus, and when I moved to Geneva I was asked if I would like to get involved in setting up a Chapter bringing together alumni from both Ashridge and Hult after the operational merger. I thought it would be an enjoyable challenge, so I said yes.
What are your biggest challenges?
The biggest challenge we have is engaging and reconnecting with all 350 alumni in Switzerland. As the first to try it, we are learning as we go. Another big challenge is educating our alumni about the benefits and resources they can take advantage of.
What events and initiatives have you planned to engage Swiss alumni this year?
We’ ve concentrated on providing high-quality events and a range of development opportunities, with master classes and Virtual Leaning events throughout the year. Our events calendar is very full for the year ahead, including exclusive events like VIP visits to luxury watch manufacturer Omega, and the Swiss Parliament in Bern.
Why do you think that it’ s important to create a Chapter where both Hult and Ashridge alumni can connect?
I believe joining the two communities could be a great thing for both sets of alumni. What makes the Hult community truly unique is the fact that our alumni have all lived in several international locations, making them real global citizens. For senior figures in international corporations, Ashridge alumni among them, these are the kind of people they want to recruit. I can see both alumni groups benefitting from connecting.
Best Chapter moment?
I got an email from a Hult alumnus the other day which just confirmed everything that we have been trying to do. He said he really enjoyed an event we held, that it had lived up to his expectations, and that it was exactly why he had joined Hult.
