How would you tackle the 2017 Hult Prize challenge?
Reawakening human potential: Building sustainable, scalable startup enterprises which restore the rights and dignity of ten million refugees by 2022
As we celebrate our most recent winners, we also look ahead to the 2017 Hult Prize challenge:“ Refugees: Reawakening Human Potential.” This year’ s challenge will focus on restoring the rights and dignity of people and societies who have been or may be forced into motion due to social injustices, politics, economic pressures, climate change, or war. The challenge will also work to restore the rights and dignity of those currently living in informal / illegal settlements. Key highlights associated with 2017’ s challenge include:
1. The Hult Prize Foundation estimates that the total number of global refugees is one billion. This is considerably higher than the UN’ s estimation which places the number at 60 million.
2. The refugee cycle has been redefined into four stages: pre-movement, in motion, temporary relocation, and permanent status.
3. The 2017 challenge outlines very clear areas for disruptive innovation in each stage of the cycle.
4. Refugees present one of the world’ s largest untapped economic opportunities.
5. Reawakening human potential in refugees in motion demands social innovation.
We look forward to the innovative and life-changing business solutions students will propose for this challenge, and we are excited to once again help students change the world.
