I’m writing in response to your October 2016 issue, Stick to Rapping Not Acting. Although I agree that all rappers shouldn’t entertain the idea of becoming actors, you failed to mention the few that are successful actors. Ice Cube, Ice T, and LL Cool J are just three examples of rappers who have maintained successful careers in music and acting. Ice Cube debuted his acting skills in Boyz N The Hood (1991) and has since stared in over 25 movies. His last movie was Barbershop: The Next Cut which was released in April 2016, it grossed $55 million at the box office. LL Cool J started his acting career in 1985, a year after he signed his first recording contract with Def Jam Recordings. He has starred in 27 movies and 3 television shows. Today he stars as Special Agent Sam Hanna on NCIS: Los Angeles and host Lip Sync Battles. Lastly, Ice T actually began acting before he his first LP dropped in ‘84. And as we all know he is still acting today as Det. Tutuola on Law & Order, a role he’s been playing 2000. I know these artists are a little older than the average rapper(s) these days, but they are still relevant in the rap game today and deserved to be mentioned as successful actors.
