“A LOT OF WORK AHEAD”
After a long 16 days, the Senate and House voted on a deal to end the
government shutdown and avoid a federal default. It will keep the
government open until Jan. 15 and extend the debt ceiling through Feb.
7. President Obama signed the legislation early Thursday. “There is a
lot of work ahead of us, including our need to earn back the trust of the
American people that has been lost over the last few weeks,” he said. The
bill includes an agreement that the Senate and House would create, for
the first time in years, a budget conference committee. It also includes
back pay for federal workers who were furloughed during the shutdown.
