Famed crime novelist Elmore Leonard died Tuesday
from complications from a stroke at the age of 87. He
wrote 45 books and became a household name with
film adaptations like Get Shorty and Out of Sight. He
also became widely known for his 10 rules of writing,
especially his final rule that sums up the rest: “If it
sounds like writing, I rewrite it.” Last year, he won the
National Book Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished
Contribution to American Letters.

CONVERSION THERAPY
New Jersey became the second state to ban
licensed therapists from trying to change
the sexual orientation of minors, a practice
that is sometimes called “sexual conversion
therapy.” “At the outset of this debate, I
expressed my concerns about government
limiting parental choice on the care and
treatment of their own children,” Gov. Chris
Christie said in a signing note. “However, I also
believe that on issues of medical treatment for
children we must look to experts in the field to
determine the relative risks and rewards.”
