In February, the state Senate
passed a bill requiring a doctor to
perform an ultrasound on a woman
seeking an abortion. If the doctor
failed to present the ultrasound
image to the patient, the doctor
could be fined $100,000 for a first
offense and as much as $250,000
for subsequent offenses. The bill’s
sponsor, Sen. Paul Hornback, a
Republican from Shelbyville, tells

HuffPost he had sought McConnell’s advice “many times,” even
before he ran for the Senate.
“He was one of the first ones I
talked to before I decided to file,”
Hornback says. “He thought it’d
be a good idea. ... He knew that
my values would fit in well with
the Republican Party.” In 2010,
the Bluegrass Committee PAC gave
Hornback’s campaign $1,000.
Hornback says McConnell’s
conservative values gave him the
courage of his own convictions
and adds that he’s received encouragement from the senator’s
