GLOBAL WARMING HAS
DOUBLED RISK OF
KATRINA-LIKE SURGE
A new study reveals that global warming has
doubled the risk of storm surges like the one
brought on by Hurricane Katrina, Climate
Central reports. “Our study shows that
extreme (storm) surges become more frequent
in a warmer climate, and that the relative change in frequency is much more pronounced for
the most extreme events,” the study’s lead author Aslak Grimsted told Climate Central. Storm
surges are responsible for the most deaths during hurricanes, the organization reports.
