REFORM
TAKES THE
SPOTLIGHT
A bipartisan group of eight senators introduced a framework
for immigration reform Monday, just one day before President
Obama spoke on the issue. The plan is comprised of four
points and includes a path to citizenship for undocumented
immigrants, but only after border security measures kick in.
“This will be an arduous pathway, but it will be a fair one,”
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) said at a press conference. The
“gang of eight” said they want to introduce legislation in
March or April. Speaking from Las Vegas, Obama said he is
encouraged by the senators’ plan. “The good news is that -for the first time in many years -- Republicans and Democrats
seem ready to tackle this problem together,” he said.
