Patrick Stewart Is Ecstatic About Marriage Equality

Sir Patrick Stewart couldn't be more thrilled to live in a world that's becoming a little more equal.

The actor got political in a conversation with HuffPost Live on Wednesday, telling host Josh Zepps that even though he's displeased with the "disarray" of the Labour Party in his native England, he sees the progress of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights around the world as a bright spot for society.

"There are places where we are taking one step forward," Stewart said. "Gay marriage and the legalizing of gay marriage – and not only that, but the endorsement that even our prime minister has given to it – is fantastic."

Stewart, whose new comedy "Blunt Talk" premieres Aug. 22 on Starz, said he's happy that gays and lesbians like his dear friend Ian McKellen can get married just like everyone else.

"The world is becoming increasingly a more fair, a more truly democratic place to live, and I'm proud to have campaigned a little bit with Ian on those issues," Stewart said.
