This manifold is classified by HTM 02-01 as a primary supply. According to this Health Technical Memorandum, manifold type, capacity and location of all primary, secondary and reserve sources of supply must all be carefully considered and risk assessed during the planning stage, taking into account specific design parameters and need for supply security.
Emergency Reserved Manifold( ERM)

This manifold is classified by HTM 02-01 as a secondary supply. This must come online automatically via a non-return valve. The number of cylinders must provide a minimum of 4 hours supply, based on the facility ' s design flowrates. A compressor plant, or synthetic air supply, should always be specified where capacity is in excess of a 2 x 10 manifold capacity.
Back-feed Kit
Backfeed protection device
The back-feed kit is used to supply the medical gases to a ward or department in the event of a main supply interruption and is connected via the NIST or through a terminal unit. This is to be undertaken with the implementation of a permit to work and under the control of the Authorised Person. The back-feed kits are gas specific and are manufactured to be connected to all types of gases.
