WITH DARREN PLANT
When you look at the league table and
current form, we would have been expected
to go out and get maximum points against
Workington and Stockport County
respectively. However, it's a lot easier said
than done, and at this stage of the season,
recording successive wins and clean sheets
is an excellent achievement, and a timely
one at that.
Workington weren't expected to pose much
threat, but to beat a team 4-0 that have
since gone on to draw with North Ferriby
and Solihull Moors shows that it was far
from a gimme, and even though it took us
until five minutes from time to put the game
beyond doubt, it was a deserved success
and it set us up perfectly for the trip to
Stockport. County have been poor over the
past six weeks, but when they are backed
by 2,500 supporters at home, they are never
going to be an easy touch, and so it proved.
The early goal might have opened the
floodgates for us earlier in the season, but
despite it not doing so on this occasion, we
fought hard to record a 1-0 win, which was
our first since the middle of September.
As Rob has alluded to in the past week or
so, some clubs could begin to feel the
pressure around this stage of the season if
they are required to justify their sizeable
budgets with a play-off place, but looking at
the situation from the opposite angle, it
could also sharpen the concentration of the
players and staff involved if their wage
packet is under threat. However we view
things though, tonight is an important
occasion and the players will require your
support to give themselves the best
possible chance of effectively taking
Brackley out of our reach in the race for a
top five spot.
Enjoy the game,
Darren
Brackley Town are the visitors this evening
for what is a massive match in what is
turning out to be an extremely competitive
play-off chase. Brackley have shown signs
of faltering over the past couple of months
but they recorded a hugely impressive 5-0
win at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday,
which is arguably one of the toughest
places to earn a result. That result should
serve as a timely reminder that, despite
sitting six points behind us in the table, they
will pose a big threat to us this evening.
