COLES LANE
Match Rating: 5/5
Tonight the Young Pitmen travelled to Coles Lane, the home of Sutton Coldfield Town, to take on a Romulus side who are riding high in third place in the
Premier Division North, having beaten a young Hednesford side a week ago 41. Hednesford arrived at this stage of the competition having beaten Bedworth
(3-0) and Birmingham City (5-0) at Keys Park and AFC Wulfrunians (2-1)
away at the Castlecroft Stadium.
The Town started really brightly, playing some excellent passing football and
on the quarter hour Bull played a great ball to set Walker away, he cut inside
and his rasping shot was just wide of the near post. Halfway through the first
half, centre back Smith advanced to a forward position and hit an absolute
screamer from 25 yards that was magnificently saved by the Romulus keeper.
A Bull corner on the half hour from the left found Barnes at the far post, but his
effort went wide of the target. On 34 minutes a great run into the box saw
Bennett forced to the floor, a seemingly stonewall penalty, not given!
The last five minutes of the half saw Romulus starting to get into the game,
Bennett cleared off the line with three minutes to go to the break, and a minute
later they went ahead through a deflected shot into the far corner, giving Hednesford keeper Radford no chance. 1-0
Ball, HT 1-0
After dominating the first half, Town were unlucky to be behind at the break,
they started the second half on the front foot, a Bennett run saw his cross
headed straight at the Romulus keeper by Walker. Four minutes from the restart and Radford's goal kick was brought down by Bull, he played in Kendrick
who played the ball into the channel for Payne who then beat the offside trap,

A minute later and keeper Radford saw his free kick from inside his own half go inches wide of the far post. This
seemed to spark Romulus into action, a generous free kick was headed wide on 55 minutes, followed by a shot
