THE VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT
Good afternoon all Firstly welcome to our old friend Dave Bayliss and his Barrow team to Keys Park, myself and Larry have known Dave a while now, we had many a battle against Barrow in our Telford days, and well remember losing to them in the play off semi finals when they were far too strong for us over two legs. Dave is a real competitor and one thing for certain today is that this will be our hardest fixture to date. The Bank Holiday weekend saw us amass a very pleasing four points. It is notoriously a difficult time with two games in three days, and add to that the heat on Monday at Kidderminster and we have to be pleased with the return, and ten points out of twelve is a fantastic start. Against Oxford it was by far our strongest performance so far, we were patient which we talked about before the game, as they came to stifle us and get a nil nil draw. We knew that at some point we would break them down, and that once we did and they would have to come out and we could pick them off towards the end of the game. The result never really looked in doubt and I thought we looked very solid all over the park. The same cant be said on Monday!! Against a lively Worcester team we looked very uncomfortable defensively all afternoon, we
struggled to get to grips with their no 9 who was a very good player, and I thought in the second half that there were two very tired teams on sho, and both were happy to settle for a point. We showed glimpses of good play, but overall we did not keep the ball well enough and although I feel we should have held on for the win, a point was all we realistically deserved. It shows how far we have come when our dressing room away at Worcester resembled one of a team that had just been hammered 40 not one that had got a creditable draw! That shows the desire of the players and the good habit that we have got into of winning games. However we must not beat ourselves up when it does not go our way, there will be many ups and downs this year and it is how we react that is important. Enjoy today’s game and stay behind the lads as always ROB
