SAFETY PRODUCTS & PPE: ARDEN WINCH
LARGE ENOUGH TO COMPETE,
SMALL ENOUGH TO CARE
In conversation with Steve Barker, Managing Director at Arden Winch.
Q Tell us about your history and capabilities as one of the
UK’s leading suppliers of safety products, clothing and PPE.
Arden Winch was originally founded back in 1812 as a
brush manufacturer in Sheffield, then called R. Richmond
& Son Brush Company. Over two centuries years later, our
Head Office remains in the city. We also operate a branch in
Nottingham, serving the surrounding region from modern
premises.
The supply of safety products and Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE) has been at the core of our business for
decades, as you would imagine, being based in such a seat of
heavy industry.
In recent years, our main growth area has been the supply
of logoed clothing. We operate an in-house embroidery and
heat seal department that has continued to grow rapidly. This
led us to recently complete an extension to the department
that has increased our capacity even further. We now have
thirty embroidery heads producing five hundred logos per day.
Steve Barker, Managing Director at Arden Winch.
Q What is your scope of operation?
While we are focused on the regions surrounding our
Sheffield and Nottingham sites, we also service a number of
nationwide contracts.
We have an extremely varied customer base that
encompasses both the private and public sector. These
customers include housing associations, councils, colleges
14
HSE INTERNATIONAL
and universities, as well as healthcare trusts. We also
service companies in fields as varied as brewing, advanced
manufacturing and quarrying.
We have a fleet of six delivery vehicles delivering into
Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and the
Midlands, from Monday to Friday. We also supply on a national
basis with a next day courier service.
