Q. What are your views on occupational health and
wellbeing considering your experience in the offshore
environment? Is there a lot of stress within the
industry?
“This is an area where I failed personally from 2007
to 2014 - I ballooned from 15st to a whopping 23st. The
pressures of starting two new businesses and risking
everything I owned did not work well for my health. In 2014,
I realised things were not looking good when I recorded a
blood pressure reading of 133 over 95 with a resting heart
rate of 69bpm. This equates to the normal blood pressure
of a 65-year-old man, and at 46, I knew something had to
be done. In 12 months, I lost 9st and reduced my blood
pressure to 108 over 67 with a resting heart rate of 54bpm,
equating to the blood pressure of a 19-year-old. Today, I
weigh 13st 4lbs, have the same blood pressure levels and
have committed myself to ensure that no matter how hard
life gets, I will maintain my health to enable a good future.
