Who Knew a Comic
Book Character was so
Smart?

“With great power, comes great responsibility.” Uncle Ben stated this to
Peter Parker in Spiderman after Peter
beat up another student at school. He
continues, “just because you can beat
him up, doesn’t give you the right too.”
Uncle Ben makes a great statement.
Just because you can do something
doesn’t mean its ok to do it. Harmony
School of Discovery students were
given a great power; the use of technology- the use of Chromebooks, and
with the power of having a Chromebook- comes great responsibility.
Being the technology teacher I’m
asked, “Do you think we should block
websites?” I don’t think blocking websites is the solution to stopping students from misusing their Chromebooks. Students are kids, and they will
push the boundaries because pushing
boundaries is how they learn. Teachers push students to expand their thinking and try new strategies to excel at
academics. Students need to learn that
pushing the wrong boundaries has consequences. Students, who work hard,
turn in their homework, study for test
and use their Chromebook appropriately, will achieve good grades, selfrespect and accolades. When students
who search inappropriate websites,
play games instead of studying and
bully others on-line will suffer failing
grades, loss of integrity, lose friendships and will be disrespected. Another
quote from Uncle Ben, “These are the
years when man changes into the man
he’s going to become the rest of his
life. Just be careful who you change
into.” Students should reread that statement over and over again because it’s
true. The choices they make now shape
them into who they will become as
adults.
HSD students are lucky that Chromebooks are available to them. Having
technology at your fingertips opens
doors to greater learning possibilities,
but it also means, taking on the responsibility of managing it appropriately.
Making the right choices gives you the
power to be the person you are meant
to be-maybe even a comic book hero.

If you don’t want to read
about the weddings, engagements, newly born babies, and
the lives of the staff outside of
school, then STOP!
Can you believe our own
Ersin Bozkurt has gotten married? Wait there is more Elijah
Ortiz pops the question, Angel
Klank is about to become a
grandmother, and Evren Akcay
becomes a father. Thailandia
Alaffita also gets married, but her
outdoor wedding had a twist.

Before tying the knot, it
is natural for couples to get cold
feet, but for
Bozkurt it was
quite the opposite.
“Actually,
I
didn’t get cold
feet, because
of the fact
that I knew
we made a
perfect couple. I was happy and relaxed
during all steps of getting married.”
Marriage is a ceremony
in which two people are married
to each other, but to Bozkurt it
means “pursuing to reach spiritual perfection.”
Ortiz’s marriage proposal
was kind and the best part it
came natural. His fiancé and he
