FEATURE : FROM THE CHAIRMAN
In the spring sunshine at Snetterton
Highs and lows
Chairman Roger Bevan comments on current issues .
First of all , I ’ d like to apologise for being absent from a couple of our race meetings recently . Sadly , we lost a very dear friend recently and both Mo and I have been very much involved in helping support his widow and dealing with all the many things that have to happen . On a positive note , we are starting to reflect on the 2021 season and it has been a very good year . Some of the highlights have included the Oulton Park Gold Cup , a successful two-day meeting at Donington , a great fun weekend at Cadwell Park and , of course , our Snetterton meeting at the start of the year . This came as we were all beginning to emerge from the second round of COVID lockdown and the weather and the atmosphere at the Norfolk track set the tone for the season , with sunshine and smiles being the order of the day .
We had the Classic , Silverstone at the end of July which once more brought some challenging weather , but some fabulous racing as well from our Formula 2 , Thundersports and Formula Junior grids . We look forward to being heavily involved in the event again next year , albeit on the revised date of the August Bank Holiday weekend . I was sorry to miss our Mallory Park weekend . It is a circuit I ’ ve been to many times and I raced there on a number of occasions in the late 1980s and early 1990s .
One of the things I have missed most
of all , over these last two COVID limited seasons , are our Historic Formula 2 series trips across the channel to visit some fantastic circuits and meet up with our many friends in Europe . I really do hope that in 2022 things will be back much closer to normal and that our F2 races will once again run at some of the best historic racing festivals in Europe . It is firmly our intent that Historic F2 has a European calendar and we are working hard to make that happen with visits to some of the finest circuits in Europe . I can ’ t wait to see many old friends once more .
We have some plans for Classic Formula 3 , which will be revealed in due course and Andy and the office team

are working hard on the calendar for next year , despite the recent changes , which we hope we ’ ll give everyone the spread of races , venues and dates that that will ensure they come out racing regularly .
Finally , I ’ d like to add to Andy ’ s words of welcome to Jasmine Walker , who is about to join the team at Silverstone in a key role . I wish her every success as she learns all about historic motor racing . I ’ m sure she will prove a popular addition to our team and that you will all give her the warm welcome that she deserves . We will have a full appreciation of Alan Jones ’ s contribution to the HSCC in the next issue of the magazine .
