Michael : Age : 67 Lives : Langley
Andrew : Age : 35 Lives : Langley
Andrew Hibberd says : “ We ’ ve been doing the Guards Trophy together , but we ’ ve been racing against each other for longer in Formula Junior . He helps me now a lot more in different things . We work together differently but before it was competitive .
“ One year we had a great race where for lap after lap we were around Silverstone National side by side . And that was really quite memorable . It was quite something that was good fun .
“ We both try and help each other along and obviously I couldn ’ t do it without their support . And that ’ s the main thing to
remember and there ’ s nothing better than sharing the Lotus 23B with him . We ’ re lucky that we ’ ve won two Guards races together and that was magical .
“ He ’ s very good at setting the cars up and we do sometimes have slightly different thoughts on where we want to go with stuff . But we work really well as a team and you can ’ t forget it ’ s not just the dads . It ’ s also about mum Hazel as well . She makes it all possible and she ’ s very important and would be frustrated if she thought she was being left out . You know , she works just as hard in the business .”
Westie and Sam Mitchell Historic Formula Ford and Guards Trophy
Westie : Age : 57 Lives : Bourtonon-the-Water
Sam : Age : 25 Lives : Cheltenham because it ’ s a family connection . It ’ s nice to be in touch and mum Claire always comes along as well . And my partner Holly is really keen on coming along , which is great as well , so it ’ s really good fun .
“ I think we ’ ve become more relaxed about it as the years have gone by . We ’ ve done the Formula Ford stuff , which is always higher intensity because it ’ s more competitive , whereas I think this is a bit more chilled out . I think we ’ re all a bit more relaxed about it now , which makes it more pleasant actually . And now we ’ re

grown up and we can look after ourselves and not have to be organised as much by mum and dad !”
Sam Mitchell says : “ We went to our local indoor kart track and dad set a time for Ben to get down to and he got near to it . And that ’ s when it started . Ben was karting then and I started when I was seven years old .
“ It ’ s trying to fit everything in and racing is really a special time . It ’ s pretty chill . I think we ’ ve got a good dynamic at the moment . Because dad ’ s got more time to spend on the cars since I took over the business . So , I work on the business and he spends more time on the racing . Then my brother Ben and I take it in turns to share the Chevron B8 with him in the Guards Trophy .
“ It ’ s a great thing to go racing together
