MATTERS OF THE MOMENT
Scrutineering – an important check
HSCC Thundersports at the Classic
News from the Chief Executive , Andy Dee-Crowne

The end of the season approaches

Already we are looking towards the end of the 2021 racing season and I have to say that it has generally been a very good year for the Club and our members . It ’ s been a privilege to see how our members have reacted positively to the chance to be competing again after the interrupted 2020 season . I ’ m really pleased with the spirit and the camaraderie that has been ever present within the Club and its racing activities . It is a tremendous feature of HSCC racing and I am very keen that this continues and develops .
Despite the restrictions on social gatherings in the first half of the year , many of our championships have more recently returned to social events at race meetings and I know this is a key factor in the enjoyment of their racing for many of our members .
Inevitably , as we continue to move forward from the worst of the COVID situation , there will be more changes and one such change is that we are now returning to a normal scrutineering process following the interim measures put in place last year . We will continue with pre-event declarations and electronic signing on for drivers , but we have to recognise that there is no substitute for hands-on scrutineering before events .
I was interested to hear at a recent Motorsport UK meeting that 61 % of scrutineers who had responded to a survey had noticed an increase in non-eligibility of cars on safety matters since the scrutineering process was
temporarily amended . Scrutineering is done to enhance your safety and it is a vital part of the process to ensure that cars and drivers ’ equipment are all correct and as safe as they can be .
I ’ d like to issue a warm invitation to all of our racing members , their families , mechanics , friends and supporters to come along to our end of season annual awards evening and dinner dance at Sywell , on Saturday November 20 .
We are very pleased to be able to run this event after missing last year ’ s celebrations due to COVID limitations and I hope many of you will come along to enjoy what promises to be a superb evening in a stunning setting as we celebrate our winners and reflect on the season past .
You will have read , no doubt , of the date changes for the Classic , Silverstone and the Oulton Park Gold
The Oulton Park Gold Cup
Cup and these are detailed elsewhere in this magazine . Inevitably , these changes have meant quite a lot of rejigging of planned calendars for 2022 and we are working through that process currently . We will confirm dates for next year as early as practical .
Finally , I ’ d like to welcome Jasmine Walker to the HSCC office team and wish her every success in her now role as Alan Jones prepares for his greatly deserved retirement .
Keep safe .
