6 . New Appendix 3 Fire Extinguisher regulations
If you follow the guidance given in the Yearbook regulations on page 170 K2.1 and the drawings 39-42 on page 201 and 44 on page 206 , all should be well .
4 . Shoulder strap angle The Yearbook drawing 39 on page 201 shows clearly the permitted angles of the shoulder-straps behind the driver . Please check yours and modify your mounting points as necessary if the required angle is not currently achieved . This angle is particularly important if you wear a Forward Head Restraint device that depends on the shoulder straps to keep it securely in place . a driver suddenly notices an engine fire that has been burning for any length of time – the brakes are rapidly applied and the driver , now with burntthrough shoulder-straps , is retarded not as usual by those tight straps , but by the unforgiving steering-wheel and dashboard …
Simply fabricate a fire-resistant box around any webbing exposed in the engine bay or perhaps wrap the webbing in fire-resistant aluminium / Kevlar backed tape . Fire protection is required for the time taken to spot the fire and then exit the car .

Please note that all cars , not just ones built after 2018 , are subject to the regulations on Yearbook page 208 . Your scrutineers will have no flexibility whatsoever to ‘ interpret ’ these regulations other than on a literal basis . Ensure that you read them and ensure that any plumbed-in system appears in the FIA technical list 16 or 52 . 7 . Other Time limited safety equipment
There are no helmet or clothing standards that are expiring specifically in 2022 , so you only need to check all helmets , overalls , gloves , boots and underwear for wear and damage ( particularly holes in gloves and boots ). Christmas is very conveniently timed for receiving replacements …
The remaining item to be checked now is your fire extinguisher ’ s servicedue date , as most manufacturers and service agents experience a servicing backlog at the start of each new season , hence why getting this done before the New Year makes sense .
