The rebuilt Motul
Motul back on track
The Motul M1 Formula 2 car raced in 1973 by Tim Schenken returned to the track at the Oulton Park Gold Cup in the hands of Steve Worrad , in what was believed to be its the first racing appearance since 1978 . Worrad ran the car in Formula Atlantic specification with a BDA engine . “ It was a barn find in America ,” said Worrad who was taken around 1000 man hours on the rebuild . It is finished in the colours of Tom Pryce , who raced both F2 and Atlantic versions of the Ray Jessop design .
“ It ’ s one of eight cars built originally ,” said Worrad , who is also rebuilding an ex- Henri Pescarolo F2 Motul . “ The only difference between the F2 and Atlantic versions is the type of engine fitted ,” he said . Sadly , Worrad only managed a handful of laps at Oulton before new car teething issues side-lined the car .
Tiff ’ s Crossle returns
The Crossle 25F raced from new by Tiff Needell is back racing this season after a comprehensive rebuild by Dave Hart . Ian Parkington claimed a Classic FF1600 podium on the car ’ s return during the Oulton Park Gold Cup and plans to do more . His 15-year-old daughter Grace , now racing karts , may also race the car in the future .
First raced by Needell in 1974 , the Crossle was also used by his younger
Parkington in the famous Crossle brother Chris and then passed to Richard Peacock . It later went to South Africa and Peacock brought it back around 10 years ago .
The Gold Cup was its first appearance since a superb rebuild by Hart .
“ The Gold Cup was a bit of a shakedown but I hope to do more in Classic Formula Ford ,” said Parkington , who previously raced a Reynard FF84 in the North West Championship .
