Gomm gets a B8

Historic Touring Car racer Joe Gomm has achieved a long-held ambition to own and race a Chevron B8 after acquiring the ex-George Whitehead car . More recently owned and raced by Steve Hodges and Bert Smeets , the B8 was once converted into an open cockpit Gropa .
“ It ’ s a car I ’ ve always wanted but I ’ ve not raced anything like it before ,” said Gomm who has most recently raced a Ford Escort Mk1 .
At my age it should really be a lawnmower and not a B8 ,” said the Oxfordshire racer .

Early plans suggest that the Gold Cup will retain a similar format , with racing on Saturday and Sunday after qualifying on Friday . However , local planning restrictions mean that track action cannot start before 12 noon on Sunday .

Paul Simms remembered at Gold Cup

Formula Ford racer and engineer Paul Simms was honoured during the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting in late August . The Paul Simms Memorial Trophy was presented to Tom McArthur , the aggregate winner from the two Historic FF1600 races run on the Sunday of the high-profile event .
Paul , father of multiple champion Benn , sadly died in April 2020 at the age of 74 after contracting the COVID virus . In later times , Paul concentrated on the preparation of Benn ’ s cars and was ever present at race meetings . He was a hugely popular figure in the HSCC paddock and he was a fine engineer , a successful businessman and , most of all , a great family man . Benn and his mum Carol joined Tom on the podium after the race to present the impressive trophy . “ He ’ s a very worthy winner ,” said Benn of the Titan Mk4 racer .
