MARSHALLING MATTERS
The team at Vintage Stony

The season is approaching

The Club ’ s chief marshal Fay Crook ponders the coming season and some sad losses .
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year . As normal , most marshals will now be going to training days and getting ready for the new season . As we all know , the new grading scheme will be coming in and the old scheme will totally finish in June . With the new scheme , if you need an assessment you will need to let the Chief Marshal know . In the ideal world the Assessor will spend all day with the marshal who needs to be assessed and will not be doing their own duty . However , I think the reality will be that the Assessor will still be marshalling and will keep an eye on the marshal being assessed and will debrief at lunchtime and at the end of the day . The Assessor will need to fill out forms on the marshal being assessed and therefore will need prior warning so they can have all their paperwork ready for the day . I suspect there will be changes over the next few years , but we will see .
On New Year ’ s Day I was asked to provide a few marshals to help at Vintage Stony , in Stony Stratford . There were eight of us and the team was really pleased with the help we gave .
They new grading scheme will be coming in
We have been asked to go back next year , so if anyone would like to join us then please let me know . They are also doing Classic Stony on Sunday 4 June and if you would like to help out at this event then let me know .
There have been a number of marshals that have passed recently including John Watt , Jason Breeze and Gordon Hyam and I would like to pass my condolences to all who have lost family and friends .
I knew John and Audrey Watt from the Isle of Man , when we all used to go over for the Manx Classic back in the 1990s . I was also on the BMMC Council
Turners at Vintage Stony when John was Chairman of the North Region of the then BMRMC . John did a lot of meetings at Oulton Park as Post Chief over the years and John also spent a couple of years doing startline at Goodwood Festival of Speed . When he decided he wanted to move up the marshalling ladder he became a Motorsport UK Steward and was often seen around various circuits with Audrey alongside him .
Jason Breeze passed away suddenly last week . He had spent the day before out on a trial and was looking forward to various adventures planned for 2023 , including going to several dinners , going to Cornwall and coming to Jersey with us for JIMF which he had done for a number of years . I knew Jason for about 20 years . He was an excellent ambassador for the marshals and would always spend time giving his knowledge to any trainees . Gordon Hyam was a member of the Silverstone Incident Team for a number of years and always kept morale up on post .
