Antony Ross in his TVR

Ross joins TVR ranks

Antony Ross has joined the growing band of TVR 3000M racers in 70s Road Sports and made a successful debut at Snetterton in a car built by former GT and touring car racer Michael Caine . Ross was the Historic Road Sports champion last season in his Alfa Romeo Spider and gave the TVR a strong debut at his home track when he finished fourth overall . “ I ’ m just shaking it down , really ,” he said . “ The Alfa is having a rest this year and the TVR is a lot quicker than the Alfa . It had never really raced properly until Snetterton .”
Caine built the TVR for a customer but it then became available for sale and Ross traded in his Lola T204 Formula Ford 1600 for the new car . n We are grateful to Andrew Kitson for this photo of Formula Ford veterans Rick Morris and David Wheeler at Snetterton . David was a star of FF1600 in the late 1970s and early 1980s , racing in the colours of SDC . He came along to see Rick race in Classic Formula Ford and
former Royale boss Alan Cornock was also on hand to join in the reunion . David raced Royales for much of his racing career . Remarkably , the young Kitson was largely responsible for hooking David up with SDC for sponsorship in the first place , 42 years ago !

Coming up soon

As this edition of Historic Racing is landing on your doorstep , the annual Wolds Trophy meeting at Cadwell Park ( 5 / 6 June ) is almost upon us . Entries were looking very encouraging as this issue closed for press and there may just be time to place a late entry if you would like to be there . In late June ( 26 / 27 ), we have a superb weekend planned at Donington Park and then comes the annual Legends of Brands Hatch Super Prix ( 9-11 July ). Formula 2 and Thundersports are on the bill for The Classic , Silverstone ( 30 July-1 August ) while other Club categories have a summer break until the Oulton Park Gold Cup at the end of August .
As ever , we urge competitors to enter as early as possible as this really helps the Club office plan final timetables and make maximum use of the available track time . Please don ’ t forget that no entry fees are taken until the closing date for entries .
n As well as guesting in various historic cars , Club member Ben Mitchell is trying his hand at some modern Formula Ford racing this season in a Van Diemen RF99 owned by Richard Hudson-Evans . He recently finished sixth at Castle Combe , 24 hours after racing a Lister Jaguar at Donington Park . More outings in the family Chevron B8 are also likely . PHOTO : PHIL JOHNSON .
