The season is underway !

Chairman Roger Bevan reflects on the early events of 2021 and the challenging times facing the sport .
We have all put a lot of energy into the start of the season and we ’ ve made a very good start to the Club ’ s year . We are determined to make a success of this year but we can ’ t accurately judge events to come due to the on-going challenge of the Covid virus . Right now , the vaccination programme in the UK is allowing us all increasing freedom and we must hope that the situation will continue to steadily improve through the year . I ’ m sure there will be more lumps and bumps along the way on the journey back towards normal life . I think we certainly have to be optimistic and we have to look to continue building the Club . We need to continue to support those series that are strong and concentrate on those series that are not currently so strong .
We know the cars are there and we need to understand why they ’ re not coming out racing . We need to encourage them to come out and race : those are really the sorts of things we need to concentrate on .
There is every reason to be optimistic . The Club and our sport faces financial challenges as we return towards a full season . We are very grateful for all the support shown over the opening meetings at Donington Park and particularly at Snetterton where we had a wide range of cars and generally well supported grids . We must focus on quality racing , safe racing and , above all , enjoyable racing . That ’ s why we go racing and we should never forget that . That is what the HSCC is all about .
I spent much of Saturday and Sunday in the paddock at Snetterton and I can report that there was a wonderful atmosphere . Everyone was so pleased to be back racing and a gloriously sunny weekend allowed friends to meet up once more in a COVIDsafe way . There were smiles all round and I must thank the organising team and all the marshals and officials for their support . We even finished nicely ahead of schedule on Sunday .
I believe we ’ ve got a good management team and we have a new Vice Chairman to welcome aboard . Frank Lyons has vast experience in club motor sport and is a dedicated historic racer . He brings a wealth of knowledge and contacts right across the sport . Of course , we also recognise the contribution made by Charles Barter over his time in the role and look forward to continuing to see him and his Datsun 240Z battling at the front of the 70s Road Sports pack .
