The way we were

We go back to the way the HSCC looked and what was in the news 30 years ago in 1991 .
News for the 1991 season included the club ’ s first away fixture in the form of the Irish Historic Super Prix at Mondello Park on 13 / 14 April . During 1990 , the club ’ s Historic Formula 1 and Improved Road Sports Championships visited the Naas circuit and that trip was deemed successful enough for the club to take a full programme of races to the 1.25-mile track . The 1990 Historic F1 race was due to be the first race for Grand Prix cars in Ireland since before the Second World War .

In addition , the 1991 event would include a race for the Pre ’ 75 2-Litre Group 6 Challenge , which was to be administered by the club office but not run as a club championship . Sadly , with a few weeks to go to the planned event , the Mondello weekend had to be cancelled as too few drivers had entered to make it viable . Only around 30 cars were committed to the meeting and it seems that the cost , distance and time involved in getting to the circuit was too much for most club

members . The background of the early 1990s recession was cited as a factor in the lack of support .
In May , the club joined forces with the Donington Park promoters , Two Four Sports , to organise a major Formula 1 retrospective race meeting to mark the 25th anniversary of the inception of the 3-litre Formula 1 regulations . Displays , demonstrations and star guests were promised along with a full support programme of HSCC racing . Appearances from Jody Scheckter , Sir Jack Brabham , Denny Hulme and John Surtees were expected .
Another change for 1991 was the reintroduction of a Pre ’ 60 Championship for single-seaters and sports cars after a two-year sabbatical , which would again be jointly organised by the HSCC and AMOC . The new competition secretary
