F3 partnership

In its heyday , Formula 3 benefited from the prestige of a European Championship contested by many of the future greats of Formula 1 . It is with this memory in mind that the concept of the ‘ F3 Classic Interseries ’ is being revived . Though not a championship , but more accurately a ranking established for drivers participating in existing trophy races , the ‘ F3 Classic Interseries ’ will encourage competition between the French and British trophies for pre-1985 2-litre F3 cars .
This re-birth of the ‘ F3 Classic Interseries ’ is the result of a partnership between the French promoter HVM Racing and the HSCC .
The 2022 calendar will be based on four major meetings organised by the two partner organisations : the Historic Tour de Dijon and the Grand Prix de France Historique at Paul Ricard for HVM Racing , the Brands Hatch Super Prix and Silverstone Classic for HSCC . In other words , a programme that will take in four of the best European circuits .
The very successful school visit

It ’ s an education

70s Road Sports racer Gavin Johnson took motor racing to the St Thomas Moor School in Kettering ahead our Finals Meeting at Silverstone . The key reason was to raise awareness of the Race Against Dementia charity . This is what the school ’ s headteacher said : “ Wow , what an amazing day we have had ! The school has been buzzing with excitement as we took part in our special race day . The children got to meet racing drivers , see their cars and take part in time trials . All our visitors commented on our children ’ s enthusiasm and inquisitiveness , they truly were a credit to us .
“ The most exciting part is that we have made a huge difference to our charity of the term - Race Against Dementia . www . raceagainstdementia . com The school ’ s current total stands at £ 1175 . This is incredible and we are so grateful to everyone for donating .”
Credit is due to Gavin and PDC Racing for supporting the event and organising others to take part . Graham , Elodie and Ray Mallock ( RML Group ), Perry Tubb , Greg Thornton and Rich ( Essex Motor Services ) and Mark Oldfield , representing 70s Road Sports .

Formula Junior at Spa and Jerez

The Brits were back in Europe , among eight different nationalities in a strong 27-car field , and it was the British national anthem that rang out after race one . Duncan Rabagliati reports . Alex Ames ( BT6 ) winning a great leading trio battle from Manfredo Rossi , standing in at the last minute to drive Covid positive Andrew Beaumont ’ s Lotus 22 , and Mark Shaw in his BT6 , while Adrian Russell ( Lotus 22 ) drove well from the back of the grid , after celebrating his 65th birthday watching Iain Rowley welding up his rear chassis frame , after an upright pulled out on lap one of qualifying .
Race two , the last of the day on Sunday , had the worst weather of the weekend and most of the Belgians and Americans ( sensibly ?) pulled out , but even though Eau Rouge was a complete blur except for heavy spray and a red taillight ahead , all the brave survived . Manfredo Rossi showed his experience with a superb win from Ames and Shaw again , so it was at least the resounding Italian national anthem that rang out . Russell drove another superb race from the back , only a spin preventing him challenging for third while Nic Carlton- Smith , on his maiden visit to Spa , clinched the FJ Championship , but only a smidgeon ahead of a fast-charging Stuart Tizzard in his Cooper T56 .
Formula Junior continued its four race Autumn European tour with a sun-soaked weekend at Jerez in southern Spain .
Ames ( Brabham BT6 ) continued his winning ways in race one , but there were clear signs that the entente cordiale was about to be broken with both Croix-en- Ternois Circuit owner Patrick d ’ Aubreby in his older Lotus 22 , and Nogaro doctor Stephane Rey ( reverting to his Lola Mk5A ) both ahead of previous front runner , Mark Shaw in his BT6 .
Race two was an exciting battle between Ames and d ’ Aubreby with the Frenchman earning La Marseillaise on the podium by three seconds and this time Lee Mowle in the CTL run Lotus 20 / 22 was a distant third , just ahead of Rey with Shaw a lowly sixth with Richard Wilson ’ s Lotus 27 right on his tail .
