REVIEW : HISTORIC FF2000

The triumphant return
When Graham Fennymore returned to the Historic FF2000 fold at the end of 2020 he showed that he had lost none of his pace . That form continued into 2021 with a string of dominant performances which netted him the championship well before the end of the season . Alan Morgan reports .
The fact speak for themselves . After a couple of second places at Snetterton and a pair of thirds at Cadwell , Graham won every race he entered , although he had to work very hard for some of them ! His most consistent challenger was Benn Simms in his familiar Spax Reynard . Benn started the season very strongly , but a few non-finishes and an enforced absence from Brands Hatch blunted his efforts . Ian Pearson was in second place in the championship heading to the finale at Silverstone but was just pipped for the place by Benn . One of the highlights of the season was a thrilling three-way battle at Donington between Graham , Ian and Andrew Park . Andrew took part in a reduced programme thanks to work pressures but hopefully we ’ ll see him and his ever-enthusiastic dad Pete again next season .
Steve Glasswell had another good season , finishing the year joint fifth in his immaculate Reynard . If family commitments had not forced him to miss Oulton he would certainly have finished fourth . In equal fifth was the very impressive Molly Dodd . Molly and her dad Julian spent their first few races learning about the Royale RP27 but , once up to speed , she showed that the race craft she learned in Junior Saloons translated very well to single-seaters .
After such a bumper year I am not going to be able to mention all the people I wanted to but …
Fraser Collins – Class B win !
John Stapleton – Class C winner . A Supervee shouldn ’ t be that quick !
Andrew Storer – one of the 2007 originals and still up there .
Graham Ridgway – Right in the mix as ever .
Ben Glasswell – You ’ re quicker than your dad and you know it !
Nathaniel Cooper – The mangled radiator king !
Adrian Reynard – He ’ s old , he ’ s quick !
Jen Ridgway – Stop being so chipper ! It ’ s not big and it ’ s not clever …
Greg Robertson – Try and turn up a bit more often mate …
Benn Simms at Cadwell
Fraser Collins in his Lola T580
Colin Wright – see Andrew Storer above …
Anthony Thompson – Great drives this year . Onwards and upwards in 2022 !
Jeremy Main – another of the 2007 crew . Sorry to hear you ’ re hanging up your helmet .
2021 has been a very good year for Historic FF2000 . A total of 68 drivers have started races and our average grid size has been over 32 . I am sure that this is our best season since Iain Rowley and I started the class in 2007 . We also had 13 Class B cars out with us this year – not far off a standalone grid ! I am expecting our numbers to be strong again next year but , in view of relaxing travel restrictions , we might need to say ‘ Afscheid ’ to the Dutch Monoposto regulars who joined us during 2021 .
I look forward to another great year in 2022 !
