The Club rounded out its 2021 season with a spectacular awards evening at Sywell on Saturday 20 November . Nearly 200 members and their guests enjoyed a 1920s themed-evening in the impressive setting of the main hanger at Sywell Aerodrome , with a fitting backdrop provided by an array of famous race cars and TT winner Stuart Graham as the guest of honour .
As well as celebrating the 2021 racing champions , a number of the Club ’ s annual awards were presented to worthy recipients ( see page 33 ).
Andy Dee-Crowne said : “ What a great way to cap a fine season for the Club . There was a great atmosphere with live music and it was a really fun evening . I think everyone enjoyed themselves and they were just glad to be back at such an event after the limitations of the last 18 months .” n Historic Formula Ford front runner Horatio Fitz-Simon loved his recent Formula Junior debut at Silverstone in the Lotus 22 owned by Speedsport team boss Mike O ’ Brien . Period FJ racer and family friend Howden Ganley encouraged Horatio to take the chance and was on hand for support . “ It ’ s a childhood dream to drive a Lotus around Silverstone ,” said Fitz-Simon . “ It ’ s so different to the Formula Ford but I loved it .”
n Former GT racer Dan Eagling made his Historic Formula Ford 2000 debut at Silverstone in the Reynard 79SF of Graham Ridgway . With Ridgway unavailable , Eagling jumped into the car that he prepares and was immediately on the pace . He retired from the opener after a spin but raced from the back of the 30-car grid to finish a fine sixth overall in the second race .
Martin Friedl
The Classic FF1600 award winners n Austrian racer Martin Friedl has acquired the F2 Brabham BT40 previously raced by Australian Peter Brennan and plans to contest next year ’ s Historic F2 Series . The car is based in the UK with Bob Juggins at Absolute Race Engineering and Friedl has raced it at Dijon and Silverstone in recent weeks . He was last at Silverstone for the Walter Hayes Trophy three years ago .
