FLAG SIGNALS
BLUE FLAG STATIONARY :
Another competitor is following close behind .
BLUE FLAG WAVED :
Another competitor is trying to overtake .
SINGLE YELLOW FLAG WAVED :
Danger – slow down sufficiently to ensure full control of your vehicle , no overtaking .
DOUBLE YELLOW FLAGS WAVED :
Great danger – slow down considerably . Be prepared to suddenly change from the projected racing line , or take other evasive action including stopping if necessary .
YELLOW FLAG SIGNALS WHEN ACCOMPANIED BY A WHITE BOARD DISPLAYING SC :
Means that a Safety car is on track , slow down , no overtaking .
Yellow Flag signals may also be accompanied by flashing yellow lights as a repeat warning .
CODE 60 :
Overtaking is not allowed and all drivers must slow their cars down to a maximum of 60 km / h ( 37 mph ).
GREEN FLAG :
All clear at the end of a cautionary Sector , or following a Safety car , to denote the incident is clear . Also used to signal the start of a formation lap and show to all posts on the first lap of practice or the formation lap of a race .
YELLOW / RED STRIPES STATIONARY :
Warning you are approaching an area with a slippery surface
YELLOW / RED STRIPES WAVED :
There is a slippery surface area within this sector .
RED FLAG :
Stop racing and proceed slowly to the pits or startline as directed by the Marshals .
Red Flag can be accompanied by red lights around the circuit as a repeat warning .
WHITE FLAG STATIONARY :
A slow moving car or service vehicle is on the circuit .
WHITE FLAG WAVED :
A slow moving car or service vehicle is within this sector of the track .
BLACK FLAG :
The driver must stop at his pit within one lap of receiving the signal and report to the Clerk of the Course . The black flag is always displayed with a board showing the relevant competitors car number .
BLACK / WHITE DIAGONAL FLAG :
Accompanied by a board with the drivers number on . A warning to the driver that his behaviour is suspect . ( i . e . track limits ) And may incur a penalty or be black flagged if further reports are received .
BLACK WITH ORANGE DISK FLAG :
Displayed with white number . Warning of mechanical failure which might not be obvious to the driver , call into pits immediately .
BLACK AND WHITE CHEQUERED : End of race .
