Alan Minshaw to be celebrated at Oulton Park Gold Cup

The life and racing career of the late Alan Minshaw will feature in a special celebration during this year ’ s HSCC Oulton Park Gold Cup on July 26-28 . Minshaw , the founder of the Demon Tweeks empire , died earlier this year aged 88 after an extensive racing career across many decades .
Oulton Park was always his local circuit , and so a special static display of cars from his career will be set up by his racing sons , Jon , Jason and Guy .
Jason Minshaw said : “ Oulton Park holds a profound significance in my father ’ s life , and this is a remarkable opportunity to honour him by showcasing his extraordinary race cars .”
Minshaw senior was best known for racing touring cars , including a BMW M3 in the BTCC , but also later competed extensively in historic cars , including single seaters and a Maserati Birdcage . Alan raced the glorious Birdcage during

Formula Ford success

This weekend ’ s Brands Hatch Super Prix meeting should be the third biggest Formula Ford event of the season as more than 50 entries have been taken across the Classic and Historic championships . Only the end of season Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy events are likely to feature a bigger turnout of Formula Ford 1600s . This weekend ’ s Historic entry represents a big turnaround after some thinner grids earlier in the season and is testament to the hard work of Ted Pearson and Chris Sharples in particular in getting cars back onto the grid .

New Zealand visitors

A monster field of 14 Formula 5000s will feature within this weekend ’ s Derek Bell Trophy races . Boosted by six cars from New Zealand , a fine turnout of 5000s will mark the biggest such field for several years . Leading UK contenders include Neil Glover in his Chevron B37 and Christian Pittard in his Chevron B28 while making his F5000 debut will be Caterham racer Gary Lapidus in the ex-Mark Dwyer Lola T400 . The Derek Bell Trophy grid will feature a capacity 32-car entry . The Kiwi visitors are Ian Riley ( Lola T332 ), Steve Ross ( McRae GM1 ),

Everyone at the HSCC is delighted to welcome the guests , who will also race at the Oulton Park Gold Cup in two weeks ’ time .
