MARSHALLING MATTERS
Multi-tasking !

New systems

I hope you are all keeping well as we approach some sort of normality , says the Club ’ s chief marshal Fay Crook .

We had quite a good turn-out of marshals for Donington Park and we were the first club to try out the new lights system . Hopefully , these are a big improvement on just using flags . One thing we found was if you put the yellow lights on then the green comes on at the next post with a box . This confused some posts without boxes as they suddenly saw a green light come on at the next post and wondered what it was for . This also meant that you could not use the yellow lights under a Safety Car as the green light would come on . If a post puts the yellow on and the next post also has yellows then the green will not come on until the third post . If anyone has any queries then please let me know .
The HSCC , along with a few other clubs , is using a new race log . This is web based and means it is live for all the Clerks to see what is happening without having to be in race control . The time is done automatically and you put in the post number ( or use a drop down box ), the car number , what happened ( or use the drop down box ) press enter and it is live on the system . The system can also be used to put track limits on and it will automatically add up how many times the car exceeds track limits . The Clerks can also use the system to record any penalties they give out . It is a very easy system to use .
Donington was a busy weekend

With restrictions hopefully being lifted , if anyone would like to spend a day in race control then please let me know and I will see if we can sort something .
One thing for all marshals to remember is to be careful where you park your car . Cars going into the gravel can throw up a lot of gravel which can fly a long way and hit your car . We ’ ve had several cars that had broken windows and I am afraid that neither the organising club , circuit , or the driver can be held responsible . When you go out on post as a Post Chief or flag , please make sure to take some reports with you in case you are asked to fill one in . The serious incident forms are also now available again . For your information , at all HSCC meetings one of the Clerks will come round between each session . As a reminder , when using radios always wait a moment before speaking to ensure a connection has been made after pression the button , and it is always Control ( Base ) from Post 1 ( or whichever post you are on ). Wait until you receive confirmation from Control that you should proceed with your message . Give a very concise message giving all relevant information : you can always give further information later . Always listen to your radio and make sure noone else is transmitting at the same time . Please do not butt in when a serious incident is being dealt with .
