Briefs

n Regular Historic Formula Ford 2000 racer Andrew Storer has added a Formula 2 Chevron B34 to his stable and has done a couple of races in the Aurora Trophy this season . “ I ’ ve had it three years but only raced it for the first time at Silverstone in May ,” said Storer who bought the car from David Gathercole . “ It was a formula Atlantic car in 1976 .”

Davison ’ s quartet

John Davison drove four cars in five races at Silverstone with his regular pair of Lotus Elans joined by his Chevron B8 and Lotus Elite . The B8 was fresh from a two-year strip and rebuild for Thundersports while he raced his Historic Road Sports Elan and his Guards Trophy Elan 26R as well . The Elite was the first car that he ever raced when he started racing about a decade ago . It was his father ’ s car originally , and John took the chance to race it at Donington in 2013 . “ It ’ s one of my favourite cars to drive ,” he said as he prepared to run in the GT and Sports Car Cup .

B25 comes down from the hills

A Formula 2 Chevron B25 not raced for nearly three decades made a return to racing at Donington Park in the hands of Andrew Tart . Originally sold to Campbell Graham in Scotland in 1973 , the car was later raced by Iain McLaren and Jimmy Jack before
Howard Spooner being owned by Richard Budge for more than a decade .
It has been owned by hillclimber Keith Harris since 2002 but finally returned to racing in the Aurora Trophy with Tart , who re-prepared it for racing .
“ It ’ s really a circuit car ,” said Harris of the 2-litre BDG powered car , which took him to fastest times of the day at his local Shelsley Walsh and was used in European hillclimbs . n Historic Formula Ford racer James Buckton had a one-off formula Junior race at Cadwell Park in the rare Lynx owned by Vernon Williamson . It was James ’ first race for nearly two years – since the 2019 Oulton Park Gold Cup – and was a thank you after he ’ d done some work on the car for the owner .
n Former Formula Junior racer Chris Merrick made his Lotus Elan debut in the Historic Road Sports race at Silverstone in the ex-Barry Davison car . “ It ’ s the first frontengined car with a roof I ’ ve raced in about 40 years ,” said Merrick , who ran an MG Midget in his early racing . “ It ’ s a lovely little car , and it ’ s still road legal as well .”
n Howard Spooner has ended a lengthy lay-off from racing to run the Ford Capri RS2600 of Philip Walker in the Dunlop Saloon Car Cup . “ I ’ ve had about six years out of racing ,” said Spooner . “ Then I contacted Phillip and told him I was interested in starting racing again , and he offered me the loan of the car .
I ’ m loving it . It ’ s a great bit of kit .”
