MATTERS OF THE MOMENT
We thank our many volunteers
News from the Chief Executive , Andy Dee-Crowne

Busy , busy , busy

I ’ d like to start this column with a personal note to express my great sadness over the recent passing of Jon Miles after a brave battle against cancer . I valued Jon as a good friend and Club member . We met while competing on Tour Britannia and hit it off straightaway . He was truly brave during his long battle with cancer and I ’ d like to send sincere condolences to Jon ’ s family and many friends . This has been an incredibly busy time for everyone involved in the Club ’ s racing programme with race meetings at Silverstone , Cadwell Park , Donington Park and Brands Hatch coming through a busy spring and early summer . Next , we have The Classic , Silverstone followed by a chance for everyone to catch their breath before we head to Oulton Park for the Gold Cup at the end of August . Then we have race meetings at Mallory Park and Silverstone to wrap up the 2021 season .
After such a busy period I ’ d just like to say a very big thank you to all the drivers and teams who have supported our events so well . Plus , of course , the office team and all the many volunteer
marshals and officials who give up their time and expertise to help run our race meetings . It is often said , yet remains as true as ever , that we could simply not do it without you .
Recent events , though not at HSCC race meetings , have turned the spotlight on safety once more and I urge all of you to read the article in this issue from our scrutineer Nigel Edwards , which is full of sound advice . I would like to encourage everyone to pay particular attention to seat belts and Nigel and his fellow scrutineers are always very willing to offer advice and guidance if you are unsure about anything .
Some of you will be racing at The Classic and I hope to see you there . It is a huge event and we are once again proud that the Club has been entrusted with running the racing at this most prestigious event . We are sad that the constraints of travel will probably prevent most of our European F2 drivers from attending and we really look forward to seeing them again as soon as possible .
Finally , I ’ d like to send Ross Drybrough best wishes for a swift recovery following his accident at Brands . Ross is very popular member of the Historic Formula Ford fraternity and we all join in wishing him well .
Hopefully , the weather will be better for The Classic this year !
